Vliegen, enkele reis Amsterdam-Paramaribo — KLM en Surinam Airways vliegen rechtstreeks, zo'n negen uur. Buiten het hoogseizoen (de decemberfeesten en de zomervakantie) boeken scheelt honderden euro's per stoel.

Borg, huur vooruit, tijdelijk gemeubileerd wonen en de inrichting. De huren in Paramaribo zijn naar Nederlandse maatstaven laag — een appartement kost omgerekend grofweg € 230 tot 450 per maand, het expat- en nieuwbouwsegment in euro's of dollars daarboven — maar het vastgoed is gedollariseerd en de startkas is deels contant: automaten zijn geregeld leeg en niet elke betaling kan met een buitenlandse pas.

If you buy, count on 3 to 6% of the purchase price on top of this amount. On a home of € 250,000 that's € 7.500 to € 15.000.
De overdracht loopt via de notaris, met overdrachtskosten en registratie die samen op enkele procenten uitkomen — maar het echte huiswerk zit hier niet in het percentage. In Suriname is de titel de vraag: volle of allodiale eigendom kun je als Nederlander kopen, grondhuur op domeingrond niet op persoonlijke titel — en grondhuur draagt een bebouwingsplicht en de 18-maandenregel bij overlijden. Laat de titelcheck doen vóór elke aanbetaling.
