What does emigrating to Curaçao cost?
Answer four questions and you have an honest range for your situation. Every item shows whether it's a checked rate or an estimate. The big item here isn't the paperwork, but the ocean in between.

A rough indication for your situation
A few short questions, and you get a range instead of an amount. That's deliberate: an exact figure would suggest a precision nobody has.
Count on a total of
€ 3.700 – € 8.300
Where does that difference come from?
- The first months€ 3.000 – € 7.000
Below you'll find per item where the upper and the lower limit come from.
- Aanvraag en papieren
- € 300 – € 400
- De verhuizing
- € 400 – € 900
- De eerste maanden
- € 3.000 – € 7.000
Every item, one by onePer item the amount, the source and whether it's a rate or an estimate
Aanvraag en papieren
- Declaration of admission by operation of law€ 250 – € 350
- Kranshi, sédula and extracts€ 20 – € 60
De verhuizing
- Travel(estimate)€ 400 – € 900
You fly, one way Amsterdam-Willemstad, outside the high season. There is no route by road: this is an overseas destination.
De eerste maanden
- The first months(estimate)€ 3.000 – € 7.000
The money here goes on housing and living until everything is in place. You pay a deposit (usually one month) and rent in advance, and you stay somewhere temporary until the container arrives. Curaçao is an import island: groceries and the electricity bill come out higher than you are used to. Rentals for expats start around € 850-1,200 for a flat. In the popular neighbourhoods that rises quickly.
And if you buy a house?
This calculation assumes renting: the first months include deposit and rent in advance.
If you buy, count on 5 to 7% of the purchase price on top of this amount. On a home of € 250,000 that's € 12.500 to € 17.500.
When buying, count on 5 to 7% in costs. The lion's share is transfer tax: 4% of the purchase price or the market value, whichever is higher. The notary is free to set their fee, but in practice charges 1.5 to 2%. On top of that fee comes 6% turnover tax. Add land registry costs and stamp duty, together around XCG 910.
An order of magnitude based on averages, not a quote. The real amounts depend on your occupation, your route, the season and dozens of choices you still have to make.
Rates checked on 12 August 2026.
