What does emigrating to Argentina cost?
Answer a few short questions and you have an honest range for your situation. For every item it says whether it's a checked rate or an estimate. The application itself is cheap: a residencia temporaria costs a Dutch national 100,000 pesos, about 59 euros, the first DNI 20,000 pesos. The money sits in three other items: the health policy that replaces the CAK and returns every year, the move across the ocean with a guarantee on your household goods, and the car, which with temporary residence may only stay 480 days. One thing we state honestly. For shipping a car there's no official amount anywhere; that item is there without a number.

A rough indication for your situation
A few short questions, and you get a range instead of an amount. That's deliberate: an exact figure would suggest a precision nobody has.
Count on a total of
€ 3.500 – € 9.000
Where does that difference come from?
- The first months€ 2.500 – € 6.000
Below you'll find per item where the upper and the lower limit come from.
- Aanvraag en papieren
- € 250 – € 700
- De verhuizing
- € 600 – € 1.400
- De eerste maanden
- € 2.700 – € 6.900
Every item, one by onePer item the amount, the source and whether it's a rate or an estimate
Aanvraag en papieren
- The residencia temporaria at Migraciones€ 55 – € 90
- The first DNI at RENAPER€ 10 – € 20
- VOG, apostilles and sworn translations in Argentina(estimate)€ 200 – € 550
The amount depends on the number of documents. A couple with birth certificates, a marriage certificate, two VOGs and the statements from the SVB and the pension fund quickly reaches eight documents. A VOG for a visa or immigration costs € 41.35 through the municipality. An apostille from the court costs € 27 per document. Every document that isn't in Spanish you have translated in Argentina by a traductor público, and the Colegio de Traductores legalises that translation. There is no fixed rate anywhere for that translation; count on a few tens of euros per document.
De verhuizing
- Flights(estimate)€ 600 – € 1.400
The spread sits in the season and the luggage: whoever travels with two extra suitcases pays the top. The amount is for one way from Amsterdam to Buenos Aires, direct or with a change. Whoever goes further into the country adds a domestic flight.
De eerste maanden
- The first months(estimate)€ 2.500 – € 6.000
This item consists of deposit and rent paid in advance, furnishing what didn't come along, and the months in which you still carry double costs. Since Decreto 70/2023 tenant and landlord freely agree the deposit, the currency and the rent adjustment (Código Civil y Comercial, articles 1196 and 1199). So a rent in dollars is possible. Rents vary widely: in the better neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires you pay a different rate than in a provincial town. Count the currency risk too: your income comes in euros, life runs in pesos.
- Bank, phone, contador and the first desks(estimate)€ 150 – € 600
Small money, but it's here because it all comes at once in the first weeks. A savings account in pesos is free for immigrants (BCRA), and the CUIL and the CUIT cost nothing. You do pay for a local SIM card, the copies and translations you hand in again at every desk, and a contador for the first return. It's also here because the bank charges a rate when transferring your pension that you want to know in advance.
- Getting an Argentine driving licence(estimate)€ 80 – € 300
And if you buy a house?
This calculation assumes renting: the first months include deposit and rent in advance.
If you buy, count on 3 to 7% of the purchase price on top of this amount. On a home of € 250,000 that's € 7.500 to € 17.500.
The fixed item is the province's stamp duty, the impuesto de sellos. Each province sets it itself. In the city of Buenos Aires in 2026 it's 2.70 percent up to a value of 226,100,000 pesos, and 3.50 percent above that (Ley Impositiva 2026, article 34). If you buy your only home there to live in yourself, you pay no sellos up to that value, and above it only on the part above (AGIP). On top come the escribano, the notary who draws up the deed, and the entry in the property register. Those amounts aren't at an official source as a percentage and are the top of the band. Foreigners buy in their own name: the constitution gives them the right to own, buy and sell real estate (article 20).
Note: buying isn't simply allowed here
In the security zone along the border, as a foreigner you need prior permission, the previa conformidad; the cities the rules name are exempt. For rural land in that zone a requirement of ten years of uninterrupted residence applies (Resolución 166/2009). For rural land elsewhere Decreto 70/2023 repealed law 26.737, but a court suspended that; according to the Registro Nacional de Tierras Rurales the restrictions apply, and for rural land you need a certificado de habilitación in advance.
An order of magnitude based on averages, not a quote. The real amounts depend on your occupation, your route, the season and dozens of choices you still have to make.
Rates checked on 15 October 2026.
