Borg (doorgaans één maand), huur vooruit, tijdelijk wonen tot de container er is, en leven op een importeiland waar de boodschappen en de stroomrekening hoger uitvallen dan je gewend bent. Het expat-huursegment begint rond € 850-1.200 voor een appartement en loopt in de populaire wijken snel op.

If you buy, count on 5 to 7% of the purchase price on top of this amount. On a home of € 250,000 that's € 12.500 to € 17.500.
De overdrachtsbelasting is 4% over de koopsom of de marktwaarde — de hoogste van de twee. De notaris is vrij in zijn tarief maar rekent in de praktijk 1,5 tot 2%, plus 6% omzetbelasting over dat honorarium. Daar komen kadasterkosten en zegelrecht bij (rond de ANG 910). Samen 5 tot 7%, waarvan de overdrachtsbelasting het leeuwendeel is.
