For people leaving Belgium
Emigrating from Belgium, step by step
Vertrekklaar puts everything you need to arrange in the right order: what comes first, what can wait and where to check it officially. For people leaving Belgium, I am building the plans now, starting with the countries you actually want to move to.

Why people leaving Belgium need their own plan
The country you move to is the same. The country you leave is not, and that is where half the work is.
- Deregistering
- You report your departure to your municipality and register with the Belgian consulate or embassy in your new country.
- Health insurance
- Within Europe, the switch runs through your health insurance fund and European forms. Outside Europe you can insure yourself voluntarily with Overseas Social Security.
- Pension
- What you built up in Belgium stays. How it is paid out and where it is taxed depends on your destination.
- Tax
- Belgium has its own tax treaties, with different rules on wages, pensions and your home than the Netherlands.
- Child benefit
- The Groeipakket and its equivalents differ per region. What happens to it when you leave depends on where you live and where you go.
A Dutch plan with a Belgian label would send you the wrong way on exactly these points. That is why I build every country again, with the Belgian sources included.
